Won’t the rail stations and surrounding developments bring more people to NRH and thus more traffic?
All major developments, whether they are commercial or residential, introduce or change traffic patterns at the access points and intersections. The city is working to proactively address any potential issues that may result from additional density and traffic around Iron Horse and Smithfield, just as the City does with the impacts from other major residential and commercial developments in our community.

In accordance with the city’s Master Thoroughfare Plan, additional turn lanes will be built at the intersections of Smithfield and Mid Cities, and improvements are being made at Smithfield and Davis to help accommodate additional traffic and improve safety. There are also plans for additional turn lanes and improvements to the intersection of Mid Cities and Davis.

While cars from neighboring cities will come to NRH to use rail stations, many of them are already coming through our city on their daily commute. Much of the traffic on Davis, Rufe Snow, Iron Horse, Mid Cities and other streets already comes from our neighboring cities.

There will be approximately 550 vehicles parking spaces at the Smithfield Station and approximately 385 parking spaces at the Iron Horse station. That’s nearly 1,000 vehicles off of major roads if used to full capacity. Additionally, many neighborhoods will have access to these stations from the NRH hike and bike trail system, so some NRH residents will walk or ride their bike to the TEXRail stations.
