Winter Weather Advisory
Freezing rain and sleet is possible across North Texas on Wednesday and Thursday. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service Fort Worth or local news outlets for the latest information on timing and impacts. NRH Public Works crews will be on standby to sand bridges and major intersections if needed. Remember to check TxDOT’s road conditions before you leave home at https://drivetexas.org. We’ll keep you updated about any impacts to NRH city services here and on the city’s social media pages.
Winter Weather Reminders
❄️ Have an emergency kit including fresh drinking water and plenty of supplies.
❄️ Bring pets and plants indoors.
❄️ Turn automatic sprinkler systems off and cover outdoor pipes and spigots.
❄️ Be careful around space heaters and fireplaces. Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work.
❄️ Once temps outside drop below freezing, let water drip slowly from faucets to keep your pipes from freezing. (If you want, you can capture the water in a pitcher or bucket for other uses.) Here's more helpful information on preventing frozen pipes and how to shut off water to your home if a pipe bursts.
❄️ Stay off icy roads. Check conditions before you leave home at drivetexas.org.
❄️ Report power outages to Oncor at 1-888-313-4747 or stormcenter.oncor.com.
Reminders from the NRH Fire Department
Last winter, NRHFD responded to several calls regarding carbon monoxide poisoning or leaks. Carbon monoxide poisoning is incredibly serious and avoidable. Please take these steps to protect your family:
• Do not use gas fireplaces that are not properly ventilated or maintained.
• Do not use your gas stove or oven to keep the house warm.
• Do not bring grills or camp stoves inside the house.
• Do not bring generators inside the house. To safely use a generator, run it at least 20 feet away from any openings to the house.
• Do not keep warm inside a running vehicle, not even if the garage is open.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain and confusion. If you begin to experience any of the symptoms or if a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get outside immediately and call 9-1-1.
