This week's winter storms have wreaked havoc on the residents and businesses of our community. Burst water pipes and irrigation lines, collapsed roofs and ceilings, fire damage, and busted water heaters and furnaces have been reported. Emergency repairs may be started without a permit, but permits and inspections may still be required and should be requested as soon as possible.
Homeowners insurance often requires work to be done by a licensed professional under permits and inspections in order to process an insurance claim. Permits and inspections help insure that quality work is being done that meets current building codes and prevents similar issues from happening again in the future.
Many permits for repairs will be issued the same day. Same-day or next-day inspections for emergency repairs will be accommodated during this time. Temporarily patching burst pipes with putty or plastics designed for that purpose does not require a permit.
