The majority of Linda Spurlock Park will be closed for renovations beginning Monday, July 20, 2020. Only the north end of the walking trail will be accessible to the public during construction. All other park amenities will be closed, including the playground, pavilion, restroom, drinking fountains and south portion of the walking trial.
The 14.5-acre park located at 6400 Glenview Drive will receive almost $900,000 in improvements, funded by the ½-cent sales tax for park development and park land dedication fees. Improvements include:
- new interactive playground with separate elements for ages 2-5 and ages 6-12;
- new picnic pavilion and shaded picnic tables;
- new restrooms;
- expansion of the 0.6 mile loop trail with a new segment linking the west side of the park to the east side;
- new swing benches along the trail to provide places to rest and views of the park’s expansive open spaces and old growth oak trees.
Most of the active elements will be located on the southwest area of the park with beautiful views of the fountain and pond. All major amenities are within close proximity to one another providing greater comfort to parents supervising children. See the Linda Spurlock Park schematic.
The park improvements project is expected to be complete in Spring 2021. Park users are encouraged to explore other parks in the city while this park is under construction. View the NRH Park System Map.
