Original Post:

You probably don’t give city services much thought, but we all use them every day and they are a big part of what makes North Richland Hills a great place to call home. Now’s your chance to have a say about the city budget and city services for Fiscal Year 2019-2020. Public hearings on the city’s proposed budget and tax rate will be held at the following times in the City Council Chamber on the 3rd floor of City Hall, located at 4301 City Point Drive:

Monday, August 26, 2019

  • 6:30 p.m., Parks & Recreation Facilities Development Corp. Budget
  • 6:40 p.m., Crime Control & Prevention District Budget
  • 7:00 p.m., City Budget
  • 7:00 p.m., City Tax Rate

Thursday, August 29, 2018

  • 7:00 p.m., City Tax Rate

Residents are encourage to learn more about the proposed budget and property tax rate and submit comments online or during one of the public hearings.

The city’s proposed tax rate is $0.572 per $100 property valuation, a 1.3 cent reduction from the current property tax rate of $0.585. If approved, this will be the third year in a row the property tax rate has decreased. The City Council reduced the property tax a half cent in 2018 and 2 cents in 2017.

The proposed budget for FY 2019-2020 is balanced and provides funding to continue the city services residents depend on every day including police, fire and emergency medical services, street, drainage and utility infrastructure, animal control, code compliance, building and health inspections, library services and parks and recreation.

In addition, the proposed budget includes replacement of an ambulance, worn carpeting at the library and aging playground equipment and restrooms at Linda Spurlock Park. It funds the extension of Northeast Parkway east of Davis Boulevard and the addition of a traffic signal at Northeast and Davis to improve access to the new Smithfield Elementary School campus that is being built by Birdville ISD.  It also includes equipment to better coordinate traffic signal timing on Davis Boulevard and Mid Cities Boulevard and $1.3 million for preventive street maintenance projects throughout the city.

The City Council is scheduled to formally adopt a budget and set the tax rate at their regular meeting on Monday, September 9, 2019. The city’s new fiscal year begins October 1.
