Planning is underway for a Main Street improvement project, thanks to a $2.2 million grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
This project will reconstruct Main Street between Smithfield Road and Davis Boulevard, as well as Snider Street and Center Street south of Main Street. On-street parking, street lights, trees, and wide sidewalks will be added to the area. An 8-foot wide sidewalk will also be added along Davis Boulevard between Main Street and Odell Street. The grant will fund most of the costs, with the city providing a 20% match.
During their Oct. 9 meeting, the City Council awarded a contract to Peloton Land Solutions for the engineering design work. We anticipate seeking construction bids for the project next year.
The section of Main Street from Amundson Drive to Amundson Road will also be reconstructed next year as part of the 2020 Street Bond Program.
A separate project is also being planned for a sidewalk on Smithfield Road from the TEXRail Station to Northeast Parkway. We anticipate seeking construction bids for that sidewalk project next spring.
