North Richland Hills Police K-9, Luka Dogcic, was formally presented with his ballistic vest that was purchased via a private donation.
The Duke and Oliver Foundation and the Grubbs Family of Dealerships sponsored Luka's vest, which cost nearly $1,500. Through a social media campaign, they raised enough funds to pay for the vest in full. After K-9 Breta's retirement in February of 2021, the department began planning and budgeting for the future development of the K-9 program - which can cost nearly $20,000 upfront. A generous private donor stepped forward and wanted to support the purchase of a new K-9 for our team. Luka Dogcic joined the NRHPD in July of 2022 through the sponsorship of the private donor and hit the streets in September 2022. The Duke and Oliver Foundation, alongside the Grubbs Family of Dealerships, offered to sponsor the purchase of a ballistic vest for Luka. In late 2022, Luka was measured, and the production of the custom vest began. Fast forward to Spring 2023 with the assembly complete, and the two generous donors made it official during a ceremony on May 22nd.
The North Richland Hills Police Department is thankful for the generosity and support of the donors and sponsors of the K-9 program. The program's success directly reflects the outpouring of support received. NRHPD is thankful to continue to offer this service to the community and beyond.
