NRH Public Library
The City of North Richland Hills will display its 5th Annual Artists at Work Juried
Employee Art Exhibit from August 19 through August 27 in the Community Room at the North
Richland Hills Public Library, located at 9015 Grand Ave. Artists at Work acknowledges
and encourages artistic talents of city employees and their family members. The exhibit
will feature works from people who may be accountants, police officers, fire fighters,
utility workers, IT personnel or custodians by day and artists by night. The show will
consist of paintings, drawings, printmaking, photography, sculpture, textiles and
computer art. First Place, Second Place, and Third Place will be announced at the
Opening Reception, which will take place at 4 p.m. on August 19 at the Library. For

Every Quilt has a Story: Community Show & Tell

Back by popular demand, the North Richland Hills Public Library is offering a free quilt show at 7 p.m.
on Thursday, September 2. We know you have a quilt somewhere in your home/family, and every quilt
has a story, so bring one of your favorite quilts and tell us about it. It can be a quilt you've
made, inherited or picked up at a garage sale. There will also be a small display of quilts from
members of the Gypsy Bee Quilters of the Trinity Valley Quilters Guild. The quilt show will be

Development Center are pleased to present a two-hour introduction and training program on
“Writing an Effective Business Plan” and “Market Research.” This free program is directed
primarily towards small business owners and entrepreneurs who seek to raise debt and equity
capital, or document their business vision and mission statement. The program will be
presented on September 13, October 11 and November 8, starting at 6 p.m. in the Library

Energy Efficiency Fair

Want to make your home more energy efficient and reduce your utility bills? Stop by
the North Richland Hills Energy Efficiency Fair to learn steps you can take to save
energy. The fair will take place between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, September 17
and between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 in the Community Room at the
North Richland Hills Public Library located at 9015 Grand Avenue. A number of
informational booths will be set up and residents can visit one-on-one with energy
efficiency specialists from the public and private sector including area contractors,
utility providers, suppliers and the NRH Neighborhood Services Department. Free
weatherization kits will be provided to those attending while supplies last. Applications
for financial assistance for home energy audits, major energy efficiency upgrades, as well
as weatherization will be available for low income NRH residents. The funding for this
Residential Energy Efficiency Program is provided by the Department of Energy and an Energy
Efficiency Conservation Block Grant, which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment

Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic

The NRH Animal Adoption & Rescue Center and the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will
be holding a Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, September 25. The clinic will be
held from 10 a.m. to noon at the gazebo at Linda Spurlock Park, 6400 Glenview Drive. All pets
must be on leashes or in carriers. Aggressive animals will not be allowed. Rabies shots will
be offered for $5 per pet, booster shots start at $10 and NRH pet registration tags will be $7

Live Latin Music & Salsa Dancing

Mark your calendar, line up the babysitter and dust off those dancing shoes for an evening
of live Latin music and salsa dancing on Saturday, September 25. Sonido Sol Trio, a traditional
yet inventive Latin band out of Austin, will perform live and provide sounds that will feel like
a fresh new breeze on a hot summer night! And as if this was not enough, the evening’s encore
will be presented by percussionist Dan Egger-Belandria and his Aquadrums, an amazing concept
blending lights percussion and water into a spectacular audiovisual show.
You are invited to come out and enjoy the music and even show off your best salsa moves. If
you need to learn the basic steps, or a mini refresher course, a salsa instructor will be on-site
to help you move to the Latin beat. This unique, cultural event will take place from 7 p.m. to
9:15 p.m. at Stormy Plaza, located at 9010 Grand Avenue (across from the NRH Public Library).
Seating will be on the lawn. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. This free event
is made possible by the North Richland Hills Cultural Arts Division with the support of the

National Night Out

Join the North Richland Hills Police Department in celebrating the 27th annual National Night
Out crime, drug, and violence prevention program on the evening of October 5, 2010. National Night
Out is an annual worldwide event that brings together citizens, law enforcement agencies, local
officials, and local businesses to increase anti-crime awareness and strengthen community
partnerships. National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; Strengthen neighborhood
spirit and police-community partnerships; and Send a message to criminals letting them know
that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Residents are encouraged to turn on their
porch lights and gather with their neighbors to show unity against criminal activity. Please

Annual Book Sale

The North Richland Hills Public Library will hold its annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Saturday, October 9, 2010. There will be something for everyone including adult and children’s
fiction, non fiction, audio books, compact discs, DVDs and more. Many of the books being sold
are donations that the library was unable to use in its collection. Other items were removed
from the collection throughout the year. Hardcover books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes
will be sold for only $1 each, while paperbacks will be priced at 50 cents each. All proceeds
from the sale will go towards the purchase of new books. The Library is located at 9015 Grand
