How to Read Your Meter

How to read your meter:
Your meter has a register display similar to the odometer on a car. Read the meter from left to right. Subtract the previous meter reading (as it appears on the front of your bill) from your current reading. The result will indicate the amount of water used (in cubic feet) since the last reading. To convert this usage to gallons multiply by 7.48.

  • 12355-12255= 100 cf.
  • 100 x 7.48 = 748 gallons
  • 7.48 gallons = 1 cubic foot
Does the Water Department Read My Meter Every Month?
Absolutely yes. The meter reading staff covers the entire City of North Richland Hills' meters each month. On rare occasions, there are times when the billing department must average the reading because the reader cannot reach your meter for some reason. When this happens, your water use will be averaged, based upon the amount of water you have used in the past. When we do have to average, it will automatically be corrected the next time your meter is read. Keeping the top of your meter box clear will help ensure that your meter is accurately read monthly.
