Vacation Policy
*Sworn police and fire personnel will earn 3 weeks paid vacation starting with
the completion of one year of service. The balance of their vacation schedule
remains the same as other employees.

Vacation is not usable until after the completion of one year of service.
Holidays
The City recognizes nine (9) paid holidays:
Employees earn 10 hours of sick leave with pay for each completed month of
service to care for self or family members. Firefighting shift personnel earn
14 hours for each completed month of service.
Employees are eligible to use sick leave after the completion of six months
of service.
Jury Duty
Employees are permitted absence with pay for the length of time while serving
on a jury.
Group Medical / Dental / Vision Insurance
The City provides medical and prescription coverage through two preferred
provider plans, and one consumer driven plan. Dental coverage, as well as
voluntary vision coverage, are also available to employees. Coverage becomes
effective the first day of the month following 30 days of service.
Life Insurance
Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)
A voluntary benefit the employee may select that provides partial income
replacement in the event of an accident or illness that prevents the employee
from working for an extended period of time.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
A program that provides employees and their dependents 24-hour access to
services related to counseling, eldercare issues, parenting concerns, legal
questions, financial issues, and a variety of other topics. Employees and their
dependents can use six free visits per issue per individual. If referred to a
health care provider, the city's health insurance provisions apply.
Deferred Compensation
This plan permits an employee, on a voluntary basis, to authorize a portion of
their salary to be withheld and invested for payment at a later date. Neither
the deferred amount nor earnings on the investments are subject to current
federal income tax.
Texas Municipal Retirement System
The City is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System. The City's plan
provides five-year vesting and 2-to-1 matching of contributions. The City's
TMRS plan also includes:
The City has withdrawn from the Social Security program. There will be no
deduction from your paycheck. However, employees hired after March 31, 1986,
are required to contribute 1.45% of their pay for Medicare insurance.
Benevolent Fund
An employee Benevolent Fund is supported by voluntary employee contributions
and provides assistance to employees in times of hardship.
Military Leave
If you are a member of the National Guard or any reserve component you are
allowed fifteen (15) days of military leave each fiscal year for attending
annual training.
Tuition Reimbursment
Employees may apply for reimbursement of the costs for tuition and books for
approved courses at an accredited college or university when budgeted and
approved in the department.
Stability Pay
Earned after the completion of three (3) years of continuous service with the
amount increasing each year. Stability pay is paid out once each year in a lump
sum.
